I bought vegetables from supermarkets for 45 years. The last few years I have pieked my own vaegetables at Busa Farms and couldn't believe how fresh tasting and delicious local grown vegetables are. It would be a shame to deprive our community of such healthy food. I really hope our selectmen understand the importance of making the Busa land a community farm.

Executive Order 193, in effect since Ed King was governor, says "State funds... shall not be used to encourage the conversion of agricultural land to other uses when feasible alternatives are available."

If Lexington is using CPA funds (or other state grants or loans) then EO193 applies - the state should refrain from investing in farmland destruction -- if they do so - they are obliged to pay to replace the farm with equal quality, local farm land.

We have never regretted the undeveloped land that the town has acquired. We have often regretted permitting land to go into development.

Let's not do something that we will regret and that will be irrevocable. Preserve the farm for community farming.

It's good for children in a community to have an opportunity to learn teamwork in a non-competitive way by actually working on a farm. Many community farms offer after-school and summertime programs for youth to work and learn about agriculture, ecology and local history at a working farm. Land's Sake in Weston has run the Green Power Youth Farming program in such a way for almost 40 years. I hope Lexington can do something similar at Busa Farm.

As a person who coached soccer and whose kids have played on Lexington Fields, I have always supported quality recreation. Lexington has a rich, high quality list of soccer, baseball, football and general recreation fields. In fact, we have an enviable amount of land devoted to youth sports.

But we have no such dedicated land for a community farm, and we need one, for education and for exposing our kids to a changing world. The ideas expressed in LexFarm are sound and have strong value for our town.

I am very enthusiastic about LexFarm. I think, in the long run and in the short run, it's a very high value usage for Lexington.
