We owe our strong start to the many individuals who have contributed to our Build the Farm campaign, helping to build the foundation for Lexington’s first nonprofit, educational farm. With the support of almost 500 generous households, we have raised $127,218! We would like to extend our many, many thanks to everyone who contributed. We are grateful to everyone who helped us launch the farm’s first year with so many generous donations.
Launched in May 2013 concurrent with LexFarm’s proposal submission to the Town of Lexington, the Build the Farm campaign aimed to address the startup needs of the farm: funds for capital needs, first-year operating expenses, and for building a strong organization that will sustain Lexington Community Farm for years to come.
These funds allowed us to replace the farm stand’s collapsing roof, to purchase an RV trailer for office space on-site, a cultivating tractor, a seeder, a flame weeder, irrigation hoses, sinks, and sprayers and to make energy-efficient lighting upgrades. We were also able to hire Janet Kern to serve as acting executive director for this first, important year of the farm operation. In preparation for the next growing season, we will be able to purchase some additional needed farm equipment and continue a number of enhancements to the farm’s minimal infrastructure.
A priority moving forward will be to dramatically improve the farm’s infrastructure to support the farm operation and the many public programs we hope to develop. We continue to gratefully accept donations of any amount for this purpose, even as this campaign has ended. If you would like to contribute, we invite you to help finish this first year on the strongest footing possible or send a donation to LexFarm, P.O. Box 554, Lexington, MA, 02420.

Opened in Spring 2014, Lexington Community Farm is a community based farm where area residents will come to learn about and enjoy food, farming, and nature. Organic produce grown by professional farmers will be sold through CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares and at our farm stand.
As a nonprofit farm dedicated to serving the community, our mission is to preserve and transform this historic farmland for public benefit. LexFarm will offer hands-on education, volunteer, and recreation programs, making the landscape of a working farm accessible to residents of all ages.
Lexington Community Farm is a project of Lexington Community Farm Coalition in cooperation with Community Farms Outreach.
