Soil Health for Edible Gardens – Wednesday, August 28th – 7:00 – 9:00 pm

In this workshop, you will learn what it takes to develop and maintain soil health and how it relates to plant growth.  You will learn how to properly take a soil test and interpret the results and how to deal with lead contamination. The class is especially suitable for those interested in growing food in an urban/suburban landscape while using sustainable and organic practices.

Designing an Edible Garden  – Thursday, August 29th – 7:00 – 9:00 pm

In this workshop, you will learn how apply concepts of soil health to designing and growing attractive gardens filled with both ornamental plants and nutrient-dense edibles. We will discuss site considerations, the design process, sustainable land use techniques, companion planting, how to incorporate both perennial and annual edibles, and how to maximize garden productivity. The class will include some hands-on design activities. The “Soil Health for Edible Gardens” workshop provides lots of useful background for this class, but is not a pre-requisite.
