This Week’s Notes From the Field
Here at LexFarm, we can’t make up our minds. Harvesting watermelons and tomatoes last week has us holding onto summer. On the other hand, occasional cool weather has been a welcome change from the summer heat, and with all of our beautiful fall vegetables we’re looking forward to the last few weeks of the share.
This time of year brings big harvests of storable crops like winter squash, pumpkins, carrots, and beets. Our new on-line sign up system allows us to line up harvesting volunteers two mornings a week. Many of our crew members have returned to school, so our small crew is grateful for the help! It can be a fun way to get a taste of what goes into filling the CSA and farmstand with produce. If you’re interested in helping to harvest, find out more here.
