Muddy Boots Preschool at LexFarm
Immerse your child in nature throughout the whole school year! This drop-off program for 3-5 year-olds offers many opportunities for little ones to play and grow in a beautiful farm setting. We’ll care for the garden, play in the mud, and delight in growing our own veggies and making new friends. Daily activities also include explorations at the Arlington Reservoir and animal care for the chickens, goats, and alpacas.
This new preschool is an expanded version of our long-running Farm Explorers program. Starting in 2026/7 Muddy Boots preschool will run 9am-1pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for 3-5 year olds. A typical day at Muddy Boots Preschool
(locations and duration of hikes vary with weather conditions)
- 9:00am – 9:10 – Arrival – gear check, teacher greetings, parent goodbyes.
- 9:15 – Morning Circle – songs, community games, stretching/movement, weather observations, and counting activities. Students have time to share and teachers explain “the plan for the day.”
- 9:40 – Morning Activity – garden project, farm project, or animal visits (handwashing).
- 10:15 – Hike/Snack – Teachers read aloud a story during snack. Hiking route depends on the weather but usually through the farm fields, or on the reservoir trail to Rindge Park.
- 11:10 – 11:30 – Bathroom/Handwashing
- 11:30 – 11:50 – Lunch in Learning Garden or Dome
- 11:50-12:45 – Free Play in Learning Garden (nature art, trucks play, digging, watering, planting, simple machine exploration, etc.)
- 12:45 – Clean up, Closing Circle to discuss favorite parts of the day, celebrate successes and group accomplishments.
- 1:00pm – Pack up for Dismissal
